Lake Agassiz Water Authority

Planning today for tomorrow’s water

waterpitcher.jpgLake Agassiz Water Authority (LAWA) is working to provide a reliable drinking water supply for the cities, businesses and residents of the Red River Valley. Created by North Dakota’s State Legislature, LAWA was formed to coordinate planning efforts and determine the best method to supply the Valley with drinking water for sustainabilitly, long-term growth and development.

Since its conception, LAWA has evaluated several proposed alternatives that provide a drinking water supply to the Valley. They represent water users of the Red River Valley in the Red River Valley Water Supply Project. Recently, the group chose a preferred alternative which would construct a buried pipeline from the existing McClusky Canal to Lake Ashtabula and transport treated water eastward. Read more about LAWA’s preferred alternative.

This alternative will meet the drinking water supply needs of the Red River Valley now and in the future. Best of all, it provides positive environmental benefits.
